FREQUENTLY ASKED
QUESTIONS

gold-arrow-down.png

Why are these renovations necessary?
First, the current mechanical systems are failing and do not comply with current codes. In addition, the recent fire in the Narthex further damaged the sanctuary and hall. Simply put, our facilities desperately need renovation. And, as the Somerville area continues to grow, these renovations are important to continue the vitality of our parish’s Liturgical services, ministries to our parishioners, and outreach to the community at-large.

How is the project being funded?
Approximately $1.5 million needs to be raised to complete all construction, renovations, and mechanical infrastructure upgrades. We hope to break ground in mid-2022. The balance will be raised through a capital campaign that will seek donations from supporters and stakeholders of the parish.

Who decided the scale and scope of these projects?
The Real Estate and Development (RED) Committee and Parish Council all worked closely with SSV Architects, who are specialists in church renovations. The RED Committee has volunteered hundreds of hours to ensure all renovations are cost-effective and will directly improve our facilities ensuring safety, compliance with regulations, and our ability to increase our engagement with parishioners and the community at-large.

Do we really need an elevator?
Yes. Our facilities span four floors and accessibility is a currently a challenge. We pride ourselves on being a welcoming parish and an elevator will allow us to serve our parishioners’ needs as well as the thousands of people who visit us each year during our festival and other social events.

What is the amount of money that needs to be raised? When will we break ground?
Approximately $1.5 million needs to be raised to complete all construction, renovations, and mechanical infrastructure upgrades. We hope to break ground in mid-2022. The COVID-19 pandemic delayed the issuance of building permits and contractor availability.

What other benefits will the renovations bring?
Renovating the community center and hall will allow the parish to rent these facilities brining self-sustaining income to our parish. Currently the hall is outdated and lacks adequate fire sprinkler systems. A renewed rental hall will give our parish a competitive advantage in the event rental market as we have free parking available, which is extremely rare in Somerville.
